Each year, women are faced with a number of gynecologic conditions — such as endometriosis, uterine fibroids and pelvic floor prolapse — that may require surgery. In the past, traditional open-incision surgery was the only option, and the resulting pain and scarring made recovery lengthy and difficult.
Today, at The Hospitals of Providence, we can treat many conditions with minimally invasive robotic surgery using the da Vinci® Surgical System. The system’s robotic arms are controlled by a surgeon, enabling greater visualization, dexterity and precision. This process results in less scarring and pain, and in some cases, it can even preserve the uterus in procedures where that was not possible before.
In addition, we offer minimally invasive surgery for UFE (uterine fibroid embolization) with the Magellan system. Embolization restricts the blood supply to uterine fibroids so that they shrink and cause fewer symptoms. Since embolization does not require contact with the uterus, the uterus is left unharmed.
